Michal METcalf (RUhr), RCC

Michal Metcalf (née Ruhr), MEd, RCC

Michal is currently on maternity leave.

Michal (pronounced Me-Hall) was born in South America and moved to Canada as a child, growing up with the duality of two cultures. She has worked as a teacher for over 15 years with students ranging from 5-18 years of age. Her love of building and sustaining relationships with others led her to pursue a Masters of Education in Counselling, which had been a years-long dream of hers. As part of her private practice, she has experience fostering connection with clients of all ages, from adolescence through to retirement.

Michal believes that people have the innate wisdom and ability they need to help guide them in their particular healing journey. "My approach is to meet you wherever you may be in your journey, and support you through a combination of empathy, conversation, tools, and as much (or as little) structure as you need to help you make sense of what you’re going through."

Michal’s approach is person-centred and rooted in connection and trust. Her own experience with therapy was life-changing, so she knows how powerful the process can be. But she also understands how much vulnerability is involved in the healing process, whether it’s due to a short-term stressor or long-term trauma, and that everyone has unique needs and goals. Whether you need assistance in learning strategies to help navigate life’s difficulties, or simply need someone to talk to, Michal offers individualized support to help you gain clarity and create the kind of lasting healing or change you desire.

Michal is bilingual, offering counselling in English and Spanish. For more information on her practice, or for further (online) availability, please contact her at fortalezacounselling@gmail.com, or through her website: https://www.fortalezacounselling.com/.
